The trilogy is complete, as far as I'm concerned. You've got to admit it has quite an ending.

April 26th 2009dear william nichsolson do you have book plans for books after the book rich and mad or are you just gonna relax or maybe be with family.
William Nicholson responded:
I never stop writing. There's always screenplays. As for books, after Rich and Mad I'm writing another novel for adults. After that I'll write more for teenagers, but what that will be I don't yet know. Exciting to start wondering...

It's more - the third book in the Wind on Fire trilogy was published in 2003. The illustrators are chosen by the publisher, not me.

April 25th 2009This may be an odd question, but i was wondering how many words are in a given one of your fantasy books? (for example, The Wind Singer) The reason I ask is that I am in the process of honing down (and plumping up) my own manuscript for editing, it is at the moment around 80,000 words. However, I am not sure how long or short this will make the novel, and I was hoping for some kind of reference point! Thank you for your time
William Nicholson responded:
The Wind Singer is 75,000 words, so your book is looking like a good length. Shorter would be fine too, down to about 50,000 words. And as you know, some fantasy books are very much longer, and people still love them.

April 25th 2009Hi William. I have just recently finished 'The Wind Singer' and it's probably the best book I've ever read. I'm planning to read the 'The Slaves of the Mastery' and 'Firesong' too, but my question is how did you think up (or even what inspired you)that fab fantasy ????? Thanks, Emily,12
William Nicholson responded:
It started with me wanting to bang on about exams, and then all this other stuff started creeping in. Writing is strange. You don't exactly know what's going to emerge. Do you write yourself? You should give it a go. Particularly as you clearly have such excellent taste in books.
